Advertising has been around for almost 300 years here in America. The first recorded newspaper advertisement came out in 1704 seeking a buyer for an Oyster Bay, Long Island estate. Then in 1742 we have our first magazine ads put out by Benjamin Franklin’s General Magazine. In 1873 the first convention of advertising agents was held in New York. In 1880 the first retailer hires a full-time advertising copywriter. And in 1883 the magazine Ladies’ Home Journal” is launched.
So as you can see advertising has a long history here in America. But over the last 300 years advertising has changed time and time again expanding and growing to reach a larger and larger audience. And with today’s technology we find that we can now advertise online and reach anyone in the world.
