Civil Unions

The Three Most-Frequently Asked Questions About Civil Unions

  1. Are Civil Union Partners Afforded The Same Protections As Marriage Partners?
  2. What Is The Difference Between Domestic Partnerships And Civil Unions?
  3. How Do I End A Civil Union?

1. Are Civil Union Partners Afforded The Same Protections As Marriage Partners?

Under New Jersey law, Civil Union (CU) partners are afforded the same protections as marriage partners.

However, Federal law does not recognize CUs in the same way. For Federal taxation purposes, CU partners are not afforded any of the benefits of marriage partners. In addition, CU partners are not eligible to receive derivative Social Security benefits.

2. What Is The Difference Between Domestic Partnerships and Civil Unions?

Partners who have entered a Domestic Partnership (DP) do not have all of the same benefits and protections under New Jersey law as those who have entered a CU. If you wish to have those protections, you must follow the required procedures for obtaining a CU.

3. How Do I End A Civil Union?

A CU can be ended in the same way as a marriage – by the filing of a complaint for dissolution of the CU. Dissolution of CU complaints is handled by the Family Part of the Superior Court of New Jersey. Each dissolution case has different issues, but many will involve issues of child custody, parenting time, support, equitable distribution of assets and debts acquired during union.

Aging Relatives are Always “Relative” in My Life!

There are more of us today than 20 years ago that are dealing with aging parents, family members and even some friends. Why? Well it’s because a large portion of Americas population today are “Baby Boomers”. And they were the generation who were not only a part of the population boom but helped speed us into a new age of technology and convince. I sometimes wish I had been a part of all that! Such an exciting time! And yet with out the technology we have today I would not be sitting at home blogging on my computer? So I guess I am where I am supposed to be!

Any ways on the topic of aging I have been blessed with one set of parents several aunts and uncles and many more friends and family members. This being the case most every conversation I have these days seems to revolve around aches and pains fears of running out of money boredom and of course dieing.

Why do does everyone seem to think that we the younger generation have all the answers? For example one of my uncle just had heart surgery but found that during recovery his feet and legs were always cold. So I suggested he talk to his doctor who suggested the site www.contourmd.com where he could buy compression stockings. My mom keeps asking me how she can lose weight. I suggested she go to Weight Watchers or something where you are held accountable to you self and others. My other aunt wants to know how she can retire at age 58 and not run out of money. I tell her to wait to retire. My one of my cousins wants to know if she should quit her job because she does not like her boss. My dad is a hypochondriac and thinks everything is going to kill him. And my sister-in-law wants to know what she should do about her own mother. My aunt just went through a nasty divorce and thinks she needs to look 20 years younger so she keeps asking what I think about this or that and sending me to sites like www.ebreastaug.com.

Then I have this friend who is always hurting and she is only 41yearsold (and even though she is not part of the baby boomer age group she too has several of the same problems.) So when she asked me what to do about her aches and pains. I told her she needs to get out of her house and get a job! But then she asked what kind of job? I said get a job that’s focus is to help other feel better (thinking to myself I thought if she helps other to feel better it will hopefully rub off on her and she will feel better too!) She finally after 4 months of  indecision decided to go Back to School to learn Massage Therapy. Here is the school she is thinking of going to http://www.chac.edu/ California Healing Arts College.

I love all my family and friends but some days I just need to talk about me and my family! So does any one else have this problem or is it just me???

Drugs in Our Water?? How Can We Protect Ourselves?

Recently I heard on the news that the following drugs have been found in our water antibiotics, anti-depressants, birth control pills, seizure medication, cancer treatments, pain killers, tranquilizers and cholesterol-lowering compounds have been detected in varied water sources.Wow, talk about scary! I knew that we sometimes had contaminants in our water but I never would have suspected Drugs!I was glad to know that for several years now my family has been drinking clean water from a local company. If you are as concerned about this as I am then please consider your families health and look in to purchasing a clean water system. Here are a couple of good companies I know of www.raynewater.com and www.culligan.com. Plus I know that both of these companies offer great water softeners too!To read more about this check out this site: http://ag.arizona.edu/AZWATER/awr/july00/feature1.htm
